What the role involves
Purpose of the Chief Group Compliance Officer & MLRO
  • The Group Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) & MLRO role is a senior leadership and subject matter expert position that leads the establishment and implementation of the company’s overall Compliance strategy and programs. The role closely collaborates with all stakeholders across the business to ensure and oversee the company’s ongoing adherence to all applicable laws, regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures, while promoting and encouraging compliance culture in the organization, in line with the company’s core values and principles of business. The role acts as the trusted adviser to the Board/senior management in relation to regulatory and overall Compliance (including Anti-Financial Crimes) matters.

Key responsibilities of the Group Chief Compliance Officer & MLRO
  • Establish, develop and implement company’s Compliance strategy, risk management framework and annual programme/plan
  • Lead and advise on the company’s regulatory licensing and expansion strategy from Compliance standpoint
  • Provide strategic and ad-hoc expert advice and guidance to the Board/senior management and other stakeholders on the company’s Compliance, Ant-Financial Crimes (AFC) and regulatory matters globally
  • Manage and develop good working relationship with the company’s regulators, auditors and business partners
  • Lead the company’s Compliance function globally and represent it in ExCo/SteerCo//RiskCo
  • Act as the Group’s MLRO (Money Laundering Reporting Officer) in relation to all AFC related matters and manage/oversee liaisons with law enforcement agencies
  • Manage regulatory horizon scanning/analysis process and provide subject-matter expert advice to the Board/senior management and other stakeholders on potential implications of new/upcoming laws and regulations on the company’s business
  • Establish and lead the implementation of standards, controls and procedures to ensure that Compliance program is effective in identifying, preventing and mitigating financial crimes, and rectifying any non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Support senior management with implementing an effective and efficient risk management framework that is well understood and followed by all employees and the company
  • Promote and encourage Compliance and ethics culture within the company.

Essential skills and experience for the Group Chief Compliance & MLRO role
  • Legal, Compliance/CAMS and/or Risk qualification(s) -  minimum  of Masters degree or equivalent
  • Advanced practical knowledge and expertise of main international Regulatory and Anti-Financial Crimes Compliance  frameworks, principles and standards (at least for the UK and EU)
  • Min 12 years work experience in Compliance (or Legal or Risk) function within wider financial services sector,  with the most of it being at ‘Head of/Chief of’ level
  • Excellent track record in developing and maintain good working relationships with regulatory and industry bodies
  • Extensive practical experience in acing as a strategic advisor to the Board/senior management for regulatory, Compliance and AFC matters
  • Excellent  leadership, organisational and communication skills, with the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
