Analytics Engineer

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will bring a curious mindset, a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for fearless experimentation in new and interesting ways to meet our most pressing business intelligence and data analytics challenges. You are a self-starter and effective communicator who can build a high performing data analyst team to fulfil Orbital’s business intelligence and analytics requirements, as well as champion a data driven culture when defining business priorities and making management decisions. You will empower fellow colleagues with the ability to self-serve in utilising Orbital’s data though intuitive data analytics tools.

What the role involves
What are the key responsibilities / activities of the role:
  • Own the business intelligence platform Metabase and any other analytics tools to ensure user access and the integrity and quality of data accessible via these tools 
  • Implement metrics and reports to monitor data quality and address issues identified 
  • Develop and oversee a modern tech stack to analyse and query databases
  • Set requirements for Orbital’s enterprise data infrastructure and data quality, and work with the Data Infrastructure team to establish robust data import/replication into tools that support Data Analytics operations
  • Build and manage a team to effectively create, analyse and draw insights from Orbital data to support management decision making
  • Oversee the Data Analytics team’s agile delivery and way of working, and set up processes and systems to improve delivery efficiency
  • Lead and upskill Data Analysts on technical and Orbital product domain knowledge
  • Establish a way of working (such as business partner model) that deploys data analyst resources effectively to support Orbital departments with their reporting and data analysis requirements
  • Proactively drive analytics initiatives and production of insights to drive sales, increase revenue, optimise costs, improve operations and product performance and generate value for Orbital 
  • Communicate insights to senior management to facilitate data led decision making
  • Liaise with stakeholders across the business to build production grade, high quality reporting as per business requirements
  • Provide information support for business priorities by producing the required reporting and data visualisation solutions to support these priorities
  • Research, share and implement new methods to empower the usage of data, and unlock the value of data at Orbital

  • Leading and upskilling a team of data analysts to drive value across Orbital’s functions from information assets
  • Liaising with stakeholders across the business to understand business problems and priorities, and implement reporting and dashboards to meet requirements
  • Ensuring the delivery of high quality, trustworthy information products, tools and reporting

  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience within an Agile environment/Atlassian tools
  • Professional experience with SQL required. Python desirable (but not mandatory)
  • Experience and understanding of logical data modelling
  • You have experience with Kimball
  • A background in accounting with understanding of accounting principles and reporting
  • A strong attention to detail and quality, especially as it applies to data
  • You are a clear and confident communicator
  • Demonstrate ability to manage stakeholder expectations
  • Have passion working in a dynamic and growing start-up environment that is tight-knit, challenging and fun
  • You have strong analytical, organisational, and prioritisation skills, with a belief in writing documentation for processes and code
